Lil' Zen Yogis is the Triangle's first yoga studio just for kids! It's a place where kids are encouraged to use their imagination, imitate animals and nature by using their bodies, take wild yoga adventures, go upside down, listen to great music, play games, create art, sing, dance, get really silly, get really strong, all while making new friends and exercising their brains.
Lil Zen Yogis is part of ReCharge Pilates and Barre and conveniently holds adult fitness classes during kids' yoga sessions. We are conveniently located on the historically charming Main Street in Carrboro, directly across from Weaver Street Market. Our Main Street location puts is steps away from of all the excitement UNC has to offer as well as the historic charms and upscale eateries of the West End.
I took my first yoga class in college in 2007 and have been growing my practice ever since. It was yoga that began my passion for leading a balanced, healthy lifestyle. Since I started practicing, yoga has given me many gifts; I feel more centered, more aware, and am able to breathe deeper. In 2012 I completed my 200 hour yoga certification at Flow Yoga Center in Washington, D.C. I have always loved teaching children and sharing my practice with them. I believe childhood is an ideal time to begin practicing yoga and mindfulness. Yoga helps young children to develop body awareness, self-regulation skills, and cooperation. I have many years of experience working with children of all ages. I received my undergraduate degree in Art Education at Appalachian State University and went on to teach preschool for several years, always incorporating yoga in my classroom. I am currently working on my Masters in Social Work at UNC Chapel Hill and hope to infuse yoga into my work as a social worker. It is my hope that I can inspire a generation of young yogis to become their true selves on and off their mats.
Meet studio owner Sloan Rachmuth, mom to Zach and Zen, also owner of ReCharge Pilates and Barre. Sloan designed Lil' Zen Yogis studio to inspire our kids to practice yoga in a space that's all their own. A yogi herself, Sloan experienced improvement in her sleep, ability to concentrate, and body composition through her practice. After practicing with her children for 6 months, she saw the same positive changes in Zach and Zen. Sloan's mission is to provide renewing mind-body classes for the whole family to enjoy, both at Lil' Zen Yogis and at ReCharge Pilates and Barre.
Sloan graduated from Harvard University with a baccalaureate in psychology.
